RESUMEN DE "MAESE PÉREZ EL ORGANISTA"

PARTE I / PART I

Es de noche en Sevilla. Se refleja un ambiente bullicioso en el atrio del Convento de Santa Inés. Este entorno sirve de escaparate a distintos personajes de la nobleza sevillana (Duques de Alcalá y Medinasidonia) que junto a sus séquitos se pavonean prestos a entrar en disputa. La llegada del obispo serena su bravuconería.

It is night in Seville. A bustling atmosphere is reflected in the atrium of the Convent of St. Agnes. This environment showcases different characters of the Sevillian nobility (Dukes of Alcalá and Medinasidonia) which together with their retinues strut ready to enter into dispute. The arrival of Bishop serene bravery.

TENSA ESPERA EN SANTA INÉS

Se va a celebrar la Misa del Gallo, donde todo el mundo espera expectante la prodigiosa intervención de Maese Pérez, un varón piadoso que solo goza de la compañía de su hija y del disfrute de su viejo órgano que toca a tientas pues es ciego de nacimiento.

It will celebrate Midnight Mass. Everyone waiting expectantly for the miraculous intervention of Maese Perez, a pious man who just enjoys the company of his daughter and his old organ, which plays blindly because he is blind from birth.

PARTE II / PART II

Dentro del convento, la nobleza marca sus distancias ante la plebe, pero todos comparten su inquietud pues el comienzo de la Misa de demora. Cuando finalmente se conoce el motivo cunde el desánimo. Mese Pérez está gravemente enfermo y no podrá acudir a entornar los sones de su órgano preferido.

Inside the convent, nobility mark their distances to the people, but all share concern for the start of the Mass is delayed. When they finally know the reason, discouragement rife. Maese Perez is seriously ill and can not go to sing the sounds of his favorite organ.

Esta circunstancia es aprovechada por otro organista rival de Maese Pérez que envidioso de su fama pretende restar valor a su trabajo, pero cuando intenta tomar posesión del instrumento, el organista ciego hace su aparición portado sobre unas andas que todos disputan en llevar. Siente, certero, su próximo final y no quiere dejar de estar presente en la que presiente será su última vez.

This fact is exploited by another opponent of Maese Perez, who jealous of his fame meant detract from his work, but when he tries to take possession of the instrument, the blind organist makes his appearance brought in a chair that everyone is held out. He feels certain his next end and wants to be present to play for the last time.

LA TRISTE LLEGADA DE MAESE PÉREZ

Llegado el solemne momento de la Consagración, Maese Pérez interviene haciendo muestra de su místico virtuosismo, rindiendo a la muchedumbre ante los prodigiosos sonidos que arranca de aquel viejo órgano.

Reached the solemn moment of consecration, Maese Pérez intervenes by showing his virtuosity mystical, wowing to the crowd before the prodigious sounds of that old organ.

El tiempo, que parece suspendido, es roto por un doloroso grito de mujer, que coincide con un extraño e inesperado acorde que retorna a todos a la triste realidad. El maestro inerte, con su cabeza sobre el teclado, ignora el inútil reclamo de su hija, que a sus pies llora sin consuelo: Maese Pérez ha muerto.

The time seems suspended, but is broken by a painful cry of women, which coincides with a strange and unexpected chord, returning all attendees to the sad reality. The teacher, inert, his head on the keyboard, ignore the useless cry of her daughter, who at his feet cries inconsolably: Maese Perez has died.

LA MUERTE DE MAESE PÉREZ

PARTE III / PART III

Ha pasado un año y se celebra nuevamente la Misa del Gallo en Santa Inés. Ante el desagrado de la gente que, como muestra de respeto, pretendía que en memoria del Maese, el órgano permaneciese callado, el envidioso organista de San Román se ofrece para hacerse con el instrumento que otros organistas, incluida la hija del Maese, conscientes de sus limitaciones, no se atreven a tocar. Todo se desarrollaría igual, pero cuando ponga sus manos sobre las teclas, el pueblo mostrará con algarabía su desacuerdo con esta situación, entorpeciendo los sones del organista despreciado.

It's been a year and is celebrated Midnight Mass in St. Agnes again. People, as a sign of respect, wants the organ to remain silent, but the envious organist of San Roman is offered to play this instrument that other musicians, like de daughter of Maese Pérez, do not dare to touch. If the despised organist puts his hands on the keys, people show their anger making noise.

El ambiente dentro del Convento se va caldeando. Llegado el momento de la Consagración, la expectante multitud cumple su propósito y con su bullicio ahoga el primer acorde del rencoroso maestro. El segundo acorde, sin embargo, supera el ruido de la muchedumbre y da paso a una nueva música celestial que a todos aplaca y sobrecoge. Descendido del órgano, nerviosamente, el nuevo organista acepta la invitación del Arzobispo para tocar en la Catedral, pues jamás volvería a tocar ese viejo órgano. Algunas parroquianas que lo conocen, ponen en duda que semejante música haya salido de sus manos.

The atmosphere inside the convent be heating up. Time of the Consecration, the expectant crowd fulfills its purpose and its bustle drowns the first chord of spiteful teacher. The second line, however, exceeds the noise of the crowd and gives way to a new celestial music that appeases and overwhelms everyone. Descending from the organ, nervously, the new organist accepts the invitation of the Archbishop to play in the Cathedral, as he would never play again that old organ. Some assistants who know him doubt that such music has left their hands.

CONGOJA DEL ORGANISTA DE SAN ROMÁN

PARTE IV / PART IV

Un nuevo año ha pasado. Una nueva Misa del Gallo se celebrará esta vez con poca afluencia de feligreses, pues todos han acudido a la Catedral. La hija de Maese Pérez, ahora novicia de Santa Inés, es invitada por la madre superiora a tocar el órgano que fuera de su padre.

A new year has passed. A new Midnight Mass is celebrated this time with little influx of parishioners, for all have gone to the Cathedral. Maese Perez's daughter, now novice of St. Agnes, she was invited by the Superior Mother to play the organ that was his father's.

La hija, no obstante, le expresa su miedo a que suceda algo sobrenatural, pues como según le cuenta, la noche anterior mientras se disponía a poner a punto el órgano, vio una figura que sordamente tocaba el órgano, cuando pudo verle el rostro, reconoció a su padre.

The daughter, however, expresses his fear that something supernatural happen: the night before while she was preparing to tune the organ, saw a figure silently playing the organ. When she can see his face, he recognized his father.

La superiora resta importancia a tan extraño suceso y la anima a subir a la tribuna para que toque. Todo se desarrolla con quietud, pero llegado el momento de la Consagración, junto al sonido del órgano, un grito desgarrador de la hija del Maese, rompe la noche. Cuando algunos asistentes acuden en auxilio a la tribuna, atónitos contemplan como junto a la desconsolada hija, el órgano profería su celestial sonido…solo.

Superior Mother downplays this strange event and encourages her to mount the rostrum to touch. Everything takes place with quiet, but at the moment of the Consecration, the sound of the organ is broken by a piercing cry of the daughter of Maese Perez. When some attendees come to the aid of the bereaved daughter, they can see astonished, that the organ uttered its heavenly sound...ALONE.

EL ÓRGANO TOCABA SOL

LO SOBRENATURAL

El hecho sobrenatural narrado es la presencia fantasmal de Maese Pérez.

Este tipo de presencias son expresiones anímicas que se asocian frecuentemente con hechos de importancia inacabados, es decir, la persona que muere ha dejado inconclusa una actividad que en vida consideraba muy valiosa. Parece claro que el poeta en este caso quiere destacar la importancia que para Maese Pérez supone el interpretar sus majestuosos sones durante la Misa del Gallo. Esta es la actividad que lo ancla a este mundo y que le impide trascender.
